After three days of driving, we arrive at our first event. The Craven country Jamboree near Regina!
It was a long morning because we did not know where to go. After a very bumpy ride out in the Prairies, we get to our venue. With the assistance of Stacey Urselesca, a local member of CYC, we start setting up our Know Your Rights tent around 10:45 am.
It was a hot, sunny day in Craven. People were arriving ready for a good time, in more ways then one.
We are carrying around a cooler full of condoms, approximately 1000 condoms, to give out at our events. Around 2:30 pm, we had NO condoms left! Luckily, there were other people handing them out.
Many people were telling us how it was a great thing that we were providing condoms. It seems that after this event, there are multiple people that are in need of the Emergency Contraception Pill, which is availble at a pharmacy without a perscription, and a month later many female youths get a pregnancy test.
We discussed our Charter with a couple dozen people, some supporters, others wondering why our Charter was oriented to people under the age of 14. It was a good first event, one that I will remember for years to come.
At the moment we have stoped in Golden, BC. Tomorrow we are heading to Vancouver and crashing its Folk festival. We are also going to be meeting with our first members of Parliament. Wish us luck!
